Dissemination Workshop on The Impact and Potential of ICTs in MSEs: A Case Study of Kenya and Ghana (November 07 2002 Nairobi - February 20 3003 Accra)
The main purpose of the Workshop was to disseminate the results of the project on “The Impact and Potential of ICTs in MSEs: A Case Study of Ghana and Kenya”, which was a pilot study. The results from the study were meant to inform and educate stakeholders on how to expand and improve ICTs for the development of MSEs.

Peer Review Workshop on Growth and Transformation of Small Firms in Africa (June 22 2002)
The primary objective of the Workshop was to review and discuss the preliminary results emerging from a multi-country study of small firms in Africa, covering Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe. The Workshop brought together lead researchers from each of the countries covered in the study in addition to a few selected scholars who are well-versed on issues of microenterprise development in Africa. The overall purpose of the Workshop was to enable the three research teams to share the preliminary results of their country studies and receive feedback on aspects of the studies that require improvement to enhance comparability and overall quality.

Regional Dialogue and Dissemination Workshop on Costs and Benefits of Regional Integration in East Africa (February 21 2002)
The primary objective of the Workshop was to present the findings of a research project identifying and quantifying the costs and benefits to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania of trade integration in East Africa. The forum provided an opportunity for various stakeholders from the public and private sectors to debate on the adequacy of the research findings and recommendations towards a speedy implementation of treaty and protocols of the EAC. The EAC Secretariat welcomed the findings because they were in the process of drawing up the framework of the EAC Customs Union.

The Link between Corruption and Poverty: Lessons from Kenya Case Studies
This book is designed to create greater awareness of the effects and consequences of corruption and to help build public consensus on the need to fight corruption. It draws from both theoretical and practical insights to suggest anti-corruption strategies that emphasize preventive rather than punitive measures. The book offers suggestions on an action plan to deal with corruption and concludes that preventing corruption helps to reduce poverty, improve service delivery and restore public confidence.

The book presents a synthesis of research findings from various studies undertaken on the MSE sector. The various papers provide an assessment of the existing policy regime and constraints affecting MSEs and proceed to make recommendations on the way forward.

The Socio-Economic and Growth Consequences of Corruption in Kenya

Defining Informal Property Rights
To identify, document and characterise the existing MSE informal property rights in order to establish whether the facilitating and the recognition of these existing informal property rights and claims would yield significant benefits to those affected and to the economy as a whole. The specific objectives were: (1) Document exhaustively and characterize what constitutes property rights in the context of micro and small businesses on a sub-sector approach providing a clear distinction between formal, informal and traditional property rights regimes; (2) Provide a set of case studies illustrating the extent to which informal sector property relationships conflict with formal property rights thereby undermining the growth and development of micro and small businesses in Kenya; (3) Define the institutional framework under which the existing informal sector property rights can be defined, established, utilized and enforced (includes describing the mechanism for the transfer, arbitration an
