PROGRAM AGENDA

Regional Integration

Regional integration is widely recognized as a policy capable of minimizing Africa’s marginalization and promoting intra-regional trade expansion. Despite this recognition, Africa’s integration efforts, though backed by political enthusiasm, remain characterized by overlaps in space, duplication of efforts, paying lip-service and failure to honor financial obligations necessary for regional cooperation. ACEG’s research agenda under this theme is directed at generating incremental knowledge that can promote the rapid integration of Africa’s regional blocs. The following constitute key topics for research and analysis under this theme:

i. Sequencing of measures towards full integration

ii. Identification of common programs of action in regional integration

iii. Implications of regional integration on peace and food security

iv. Identification of costs and benefits of regional integration

v. Identification of policy impediments to regional integration

vi. Identification of solutions to problems standing in the way of progress towards regional integration
